I never cease to be amazed at the quality of music we enjoy in Sedona. Last Sunday, Chamber Music Sedona presented Eugenia Zukerman and Milana Strezeva in a delightful program featuring music by women composers. The selections ranged from Sonata in F Major written in the 18th century by Princess Anna Amalia of Prussia (younger sister of Frederick the Great) to Kokopelli, written by Katherine Hoover, flutist, conductor and composer featured in Deborah Novak's Emmy Award winning documentary New Music.
Zukerman, known as "a true Renaissance woman" for her accomplishments as flutist, published author, teacher, a network television correspondent and artistic director of the of the Vail Valley Music Festival, delivered an incredibly beautiful performance commensurate with her reputation as "one of the finest flutists of our time." Stezeva, a young and dynamic performer who first appeared in Sedona with the Manhattan Piano Trio, was superb. She literally brought us to tears with her moving performance of Romance in A Minor, Opus 21, No.1 by Clara Schumann.
We get to enjoy all this while surrounded by the beauty of Sedona's Red Rocks - for a reasonable price, and within walking distance of my house. Yet another reason why I think Sedona Rocks!
